Frank Ocean unveils Homer, his new American luxury brand

I had barely unwrapped the merch from Kanye West’s Donda Listening Party in Atlanta, when another cult music figure announced a new fashion and lifestyle venture. No, not Lady Gaga who made the streets of New York her catwalk ahead of a series of concerts with Tony Bennett. Not Rihanna either, who recently reached billionaire status thanks to Savage X Fenty and Fenty Beauty. It’s Frank Ocean, the calm and emotional artist, practically oozing eclectic good taste and emotion from every pore.

Called Homer, Ocean’s luxury brand will start with fine jewelry and silk scarves and, we expect it will expand into clothing, accessories, footwear and more. A Prada collaboration, long spread on message boards, is also part of the first Homer collection. But apart from a Prada sea foam anorak, similar to the one Ocean wore at the 2019 Met Gala, the products in Homer’s 84-page catalog are mostly cartoon balls in alien shapes or letters. A-OK curved into a ring. Prices range from $ 395 for the aforementioned silver ring and peak at $ 1,898,000 for an 18k white gold necklace with lab-grown diamonds. (The Ocean brand only uses lab-grown diamonds from an American source.)

Homer will open his store at 70-74 Bowery, the headquarters of the New York Jewelers Exchange, on Monday, August 9. Purchases are by appointment only, with occasional appointments available, or via the Homer hotline +1 (212) 410 3300 on Signal starting Monday at 10 a.m. ET.

A press release describes the collection as inspired by ‘childhood obsessions and’ legacy as a fantasy ‘- a mood well conveyed through a sort of Delia’s-meets-LLBean catalog photographed by Tyrone Lebon. Get a preview of some of the images here, and stay tuned for more on Ocean.
