How much does it cost to refuel a $ 600 million yacht

There are a lot of things you could do with $ 150,000. You can donate it to UNICEF. You could buy a 2020 BMW i8. You could put down a down payment on a house in Sydney. You could even buy three (three!) New Subaru Foresters.

While this might seem like a large sum of money to some people, to others it’s just what you have to pay to refuel your $ 600,000,000 yacht.

Enter: the following video. Posted on Instagram recently by @theyachtmogul, an Instagram account that claims to be the “world’s biggest yachting profile,” the video shows a $ 600,000,000 yacht being pumped up with $ 150,000 in fuel.

The video is captioned: “Refuel the beast 156m DILBAR!” and – of course – shows the magnificent Dilbar filled with gasoline (or, as the case may be, diesel).

Video: Watch the Dilbar fill up with $ 150,000 in fuel

Okay

The video was shot in Italy, with a Vigili del Fuoco (Italian Institutional Agency for Fire and Rescue Services) vehicle making an appearance at the beginning of the video.

A caption then appears on the screen claiming that the 500,000 liters of fuel cost $ 150,000 (although some social media users questioned this, making comments such as “500,000 l 1.5 million? That’s $ 3 a litter 🤔? “).

The Dilbar is a famous superyacht, owned by Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov – one of Russia’s richest men (something that gives credit to some of the jokes found in the comments section of Instagram, like: “Brother , they don’t pay for fuel… they fuck sell it to us ”).

The truth is not that far away. According to Bloomberg Billionaires Index in 2021, Alisher Usmanov estimated net value of $ 17.9 billion.

Usmanov built his fortune through resource exploitation and investment, and is the majority shareholder of Metalloinvest, a Russian industrial conglomerate. He also owns a Russian publishing house and is a co-owner of Russia’s second-largest mobile operator.

Thanks to his enormous wealth, Usmanov was able to have Dilbar built to replace one of his old yachts (which was also called Dilbar) a few years ago. Dilbar was built by one of the world’s leading shipyards, Lürssen, and delivered to Usmanov in May 2016.

Although Usmanov is described on Wikipedia as a business mogul and philanthropist, he certainly doesn’t reserve all of his money for philanthropy, with the Dilbar having a number of fabulous (and expensive) features.

Dilbar is the fourth longest yacht in the world (and the largest judging by gross tonnage), accommodates 100 crew, has the largest swimming pool ever on a superyacht, two helipads, an onboard garden , almost the same amount of cables as the total land borders of the country of Bhutan (to power all amenities and facilities) and is powered by a 30,000 kW diesel power plant.

This diesel electric design is believed to help reduce by Dilbar emissions while delivering a top speed of 22.5 knots.

Cushy life for some.
