Magazine Street bar shooting sparked by months-long gang feud

New Orleans City Councilwoman Lesli Harris released the following statement on the shooting: “Fifty shots were fired on Magazine Street at 10:15 p.m. last night, a night when our city finally celebrated the return of Jazz Fest. We must stop gun violence in New Orleans. The City Council released a crime plan nearly three months ago, calling for immediate action to address violent crime. Part of that includes the use of federal funds to get guns off the streets. It is imperative that our city government move forward on this now, along with the other solutions in the crime plan. Additionally, the NOPD captains have made it clear that the same guns that are stolen from cars are those used to commit violent crimes.If you have a firearm, please do not leave it in your car to participate in the next shooting. The City Council released a plan against the crime nearly three months ago, calling for immediate action to tackle violent crime, including using federal funds to get guns off the streets.

“It is imperative that our city administration move forward on this now, along with the other solutions in the crime plan. Additionally, the NOPD captains have made it clear that the same weapons that are being stolen from cars are those used to commit violent crimes. If you have a gun, don’t leave it in your car to participate in the next shooting. We don’t have time to wait.
