National Standardbred 2022 Yearling Catalog online now


Another high quality harness racing sales catalog has been assembled for the 2022 edition of the NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale to be held in Karaka and Canterbury Farm Park next summer.

NZB Standardbred Fourth Annual Yearling Harvest Online Catalog now available for viewing here, with printed copies expected to arrive in mailboxes in December.

Following last year’s successful format, the sale will run over four days, allowing international buyers to participate through NZB’s online auction platform at their local time.

For decades, the New Zealand-bred Standardbreds have performed at an elite level on the world stage, demonstrating their strength, endurance and ability to win Group 1 in both hemispheres.

In recent seasons, NZB Standardbred’s own graduates have added to this line of success, dominating racetracks across Australasia.

  • With the oldest being just three years old, the NZB Standardbred graduates have achieved 14 Group 1 wins and 27 Stakes wins in the 2020-21 season.
  • 67 qualifying Group 1 races were won by Standardbreds bred in New Zealand in Australasia last season.
  • A source of classic winners, the NZB Standardbred graduates won seven Derbys across Australasia last season alone.
  • New Zealand-bred horses defended 100% of all stakes races in New Zealand last season, winning all 39 Group 1 pace and trotting races on the calendar.

Buyers will also have the opportunity to obtain first-class yearlings from blue-blooded families, with a number of siblings from Group One winners and offspring from Group One winning dams.

  • Hollis & Robertson Equine Services presents Lot 6, a filly by captain out of Jacket (New Zealand) (Christian Cullen). This lot is a full sister of the best NZB Standardbred graduate and Group 1 winner It’s all about faith (NZ).
  • Lot 8, a The pleasure of the bettor the foal donated by Breckon Farms is a full brother of the winner of the Group One New Zealand Cup The repairer (NZ). The foal’s mother, Tosti girl (NZ) (Cristian Cullen) is also a Group One winner.
  • Lot 78 is a foal by At the seaside out of Animated nights (NZ) (Live Or Die) and is the half-brother of the two-time Group 1 winner Well received (NZ) (American Ideal). This colt will be donated by Woodlands Stud.
  • Also presented by Woodlands Stud, Lot 134 is by The pleasure of the bettor out of Champion broodmare Splendid dreams (NZ) (Dream away). This colt is a full brother of the prolific Group 1 winner (Our) Dream of me (NZ) and is also the half-brother to several Group 1 winners Baptize me (New Zealand) (Christian Cullen).
  • Lot 152 is a Majestic sons filly by To start (NZ) (Sundon) provided by Belmont Park. She is the half-sister of the Group 1 winner in Australia Tornado Valley (NZ) (Skyvalley).
  • Lot 229 is a half-sister to the two-year-old Group 1 winner and NZB Standardbred Harness Million Series winner Akuta (NZ) (The pleasure of the bettor). This filly is by Always B Miki of the mare Christian Cullen Worship our dreams (NZ) and is offered on behalf of PI & PM Renwick Farm.
  • Taket 261 is a full sister of NZB Standardbred poster boy, multiple Group 1 winners Krug (NZ) (The pleasure of the bettor). The filly is out of the winner of Group Two Champagne Princess (NZ) (Soky’s Atom) and will be offered by Smolenski Stables.

The catalog features a selection of proven and emerging bulls representing both gaits, including Always B Miki, Art Major, Bettor’s Delight, Captaintreacherous, Downbytheseaside, Majestic Son, Muscle Hill, Vincent and What The Hill.

Also included is a solid line of first season bull offspring including Lazarus, En Solitaire, Fear The Dragon, Tactical Landing, and Volstead.

With 138 yearlings set to go under the hammer in Auckland and another 277 in Christchurch, the packed week of inspections, parades and sales should attract buyers and investors, both local and international.

All unbroken yearlings purchased at the 2022 Standardbred National Yearling Sale are eligible for the lucrative $ 1 million Harness Million Sale Race Series.

2022 marks the start of the pre-NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale meeting, with a mega night of six group or Listed races confirmed for Alexandra Park on the eve of the sale. Starting at 7:30 p.m. (NZT) later than usual, the Harness Million Series reunion will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, before the sale begins in Karaka on Sunday.

Buyers can buy in confidence with all the yearlings available for inspection during on-farm parades. NZB Standardbred and New Zealand-based agents and trainers will be available to inspect on behalf of the pre-sale and on the grounds of the Karaka Sales Center and Canterbury Farm Park.

International buyers are encouraged to participate through the user-friendly NZB site online auction platform, while all New Zealand-based buyers and agents are welcome to attend in-person sales sessions in Auckland and Christchurch.
