The Bookseller – News – Welsh publisher Seren Books launches poetry podcast

Independent Press Seren is launching a poetry podcast this fall, interviewing nine poets over nine weeks.

The Seren Poetry podcast will launch on October 6, National Poetry Day. Each poet featured in the series has recently published a collection with Seren.

The first episode will feature an interview with Polly Atkin whose collection Many with the body was shortlisted for the 2022 Laurel Prize. Other featured poets include Forward Prize shortlisted poet Kim Moore, critic and lecturer Ben Wilkinson, and veterinarian poet Ilse Pedler.

In each episode, the poets speak in depth about their craft and inspiration, while delving below the surface of their latest book. There will also be a dose of poetry read by the poets themselves.

Sarah Johnson, associate editor at Seren and Bookseller Rising Star 2022 said, “We have been working on The Seren Poetry podcast behind the scenes for some time. The majority of poets featured in the first series have missed opportunities to promote their books due to the pandemic, which is part of the idea. We’re bubbling over with ideas on how the podcast can grow for future series.

Chris Gregory, founder and producer of the Alternative Stories and Fake Realities podcast, conducted the interviews and produced the first series, also training Seren’s staff so he could create episodes for himself in the future.

The Seren Poetry Podcast will be available on all platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Google Podcasts.
